WHITSTABLE
Whitstable is a lovely seaside town on the North Kent coast 10 miles from Canterbury and about 40 miles south of London. Easily accessible by road, (the M2 will take you almost all the way), and only 40 minutes by train. You can even arrive by boat.
It is famous for Peter Cushing and the production of oysters, sadly now a defunct industry. The charm and character of the town has hardly changed over the years. It is still a motorists nightmare with its narrow roads and one way systems, but the locals are friendly, and truly British, that is unless you want to change the place or put a road through it!
There is a great deal of history in this area, I am currently researching my wife's family tree, which contains the odd notorious smuggler and villain. So far my earliest record is in the 1600's.
This is a place well worth a visit if you are ever in this neck of the woods. Its also a lot cheaper than staying in Canterbury.
