Hays, Mr Charles Melville - Canadian President of the Grand Trunk railway. He had previously been shipwrecked in the Pacific Ocean. In a conversation with Colonel Gracie on the evening of April 14th, he had commented on the desire of shipping lines to break records. "The time will come when this is checked by some appalling disaster". He was not to know that it would be only hours away. His body was recovered and taken from Halifax, Nova Scotia, to Montreal by private rail car.
