Navratil, Mr Michael - a Hungarian by birth, he posed as "Mr Hoffman" on board Titanic. He had kidnapped his two children to save an ailing marriage. Ironically, they both survived, he did not. As neither child spoke English, their identity remained a mystery for a while. His body was recovered and he was buried in the Jewish Baron de Hirsch cemetary in Halifax, Nova Scotia, under the name Hoffman. (His true identity was to be discovered later). He was in fact a Roman Catholic.

His body was recovered and taken to Halifax, Nova Scotia where Frank Newell, one of the undertakers drafted in from Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, to deal with the increased workload, collapsed from the shock of unexpectedly finding his uncle.
